This newborn baby was delivered preterm at 27 weeks and 3 days through vaginal delivery. The baby is diagnosed with multiple critical conditions including Extremely Low Birth Weight (ELBW), severe Respiratory Distress (RD), Ductus Arteriosus Closure with Bilateral Apical Bulging (DCAB), and Apnea of Prematurity (AOP).
Upon birth, the baby was placed on CPAP therapy to manage respiratory distress. Following CPAP treatment, the baby’s respiratory condition improved but still requires ongoing medical intervention and close monitoring in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for Apnea of Prematurity (AOP) and other complications related to prematurity.
Clinical Presentation:
- Preterm (PT - 27+3 weeks) / ELBW: The baby was born significantly preterm at only 27 weeks and 3 days, with an extremely low birth weight (ELBW). This has resulted in various health challenges.
- Respiratory Distress (RD) / Post CPAP: The baby presented with severe respiratory distress, which was initially managed with CPAP therapy. Respiratory function is being closely monitored and continues to improve post-CPAP.
- Ductus Arteriosus Closure (DCAB): The baby has also been diagnosed with ductus arteriosus closure and bilateral apical bulging, which are common in preterm infants.
- Apnea of Prematurity (AOP): The baby experiences episodes of apnea, a condition commonly associated with premature birth, where the infant stops breathing for short periods.
- NICU Care: The baby is currently receiving intensive care, including oxygen therapy, medications, and close monitoring in the NICU.
Treatment Plan:
- NICU Care: Continuous monitoring and support in the NICU for prolonged stay due to complications arising from prematurity and low birth weight.
- Management of Respiratory Distress (Post-CPAP): Ongoing management and monitoring of the baby’s respiratory condition to prevent further complications.
- Apnea of Prematurity (AOP) Management: The baby is under observation for AOP, and treatment includes monitoring oxygen levels, feeding support, and medical interventions as needed.
- Medical Monitoring: Regular investigations including blood tests, chest X-rays, and other diagnostic tests to ensure stable condition and early detection of any complications.
- Prolonged Stay in NICU: Due to the premature birth and associated medical issues, the baby will require an extended stay in the NICU for ongoing care and monitoring.
The estimated cost of treatment is approximately โน250,000, covering all aspects of care from admission to discharge. This includes investigational tests (pre and post), doctor consultations, medications, and other related NICU charges.
The father of the baby is a daily wage worker, struggling to meet basic financial needs. Given the high cost of the specialized treatment required for the premature baby, the family cannot afford the medical expenses associated with the baby’s care.
The family urgently seeks financial assistance to help cover the medical expenses for their newborn. Your generous support will provide the baby with the critical care needed for survival and recovery.
