The baby of Shruti Agare, born prematurely, is currently 41 days old and has been receiving intensive medical care at Saisparsh Hospital in Kolhapur. Due to extremely low birth weight and respiratory complications, the baby remains in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and is reliant on high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen support.
The baby requires continuous oxygen support to manage breathing difficulties and is being fed through a 411 RT (nasogastric) feeding tube, as oral feeding is not possible at this time.
Weighing only 0.840 kg, the baby requires vigilant monitoring and specialized care to support gradual weight gain and developmental stability.
Clinical Presentation:
- Respiratory Support (HFNC): The baby’s underdeveloped lungs require high-flow nasal cannula support to maintain adequate oxygen levels.
- 411 RT Feeding: Given the baby’s frail condition, feeding is provided via a nasogastric tube to ensure proper nutrition without putting further strain on the respiratory system.
- Close Monitoring: Due to the baby’s extremely low birth weight, continuous monitoring of vital signs, blood work, and developmental milestones is necessary.
Treatment Plan:
- Oxygen Therapy: The baby remains on HFNC to provide steady oxygenation and prevent respiratory distress.
- Nutritional Support: Feeding through the 411 RT tube is administered to support essential growth and weight gain.
- NICU Stay: The baby’s preterm status and current complications necessitate an extended stay in the NICU with comprehensive monitoring and respiratory support.
- Investigative and Supportive Care: Ongoing diagnostic tests and supportive measures, including regular doctor consultations and adjustments to oxygen and feeding levels as the baby’s condition changes.
The estimated cost of treatment is approximately ₹500,000, which includes all NICU services, diagnostic investigations, doctor consultations, medications, and other related hospital charges from admission to discharge.
The baby’s father, a daily wage salesperson, is unable to afford the substantial cost of the prolonged NICU care and necessary medical interventions. The family is in dire need of financial assistance to continue the life-saving treatment for their child.
Support from donors and funding agencies is urgently requested to cover the treatment costs. Any financial assistance can greatly improve the baby’s chances of recovery and development, offering hope to the family during this challenging time.
