Twin 1 and Twin 2, born to Upasana Mirajbhai Patel, were born extremely preterm at 27 weeks gestation. Due to the premature birth, both babies were admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for immediate and intensive care.
- Twin 1: Diagnosed with extreme prematurity at 27 weeks, Appropriate for Gestational Age (AGA), and suffering from perinatal asphyxia, which caused oxygen deprivation around the time of birth. The baby also developed late-onset sepsis, a serious infection occurring after the first week of life, which requires urgent medical intervention.
Both babies are currently in the NICU under the care of Dr. Sachin Shah and are receiving essential treatment, including respiratory support, antibiotics, and other life-saving interventions. The babies are being monitored for any additional complications due to their extremely premature status and fragile condition.
Clinical Presentation:
- Extreme Preterm (27 Weeks): Both twins were born severely premature, which has resulted in critical health conditions. Premature babies born this early face significant challenges in breathing, feeding, and maintaining body temperature.
- Perinatal Asphyxia (Twin 1): Twin 1 experienced oxygen deprivation at birth, leading to potential risks for brain damage and other organ complications.
- Late-Onset Sepsis (Twin 1): Twin 1 has developed an infection, which is common in premature infants due to their underdeveloped immune systems.
- NICU Care: Both babies are receiving intensive care in the NICU, including respiratory support, monitoring, and necessary medical treatments.
Treatment Plan:
- NICU Care: Both twins will remain in the NICU for extended monitoring and support, especially for breathing, feeding, and management of any infections or complications.
- Management of Perinatal Asphyxia (Twin 1): Twin 1 requires continuous monitoring and treatment to mitigate the effects of oxygen deprivation at birth.
- Treatment for Late-Onset Sepsis (Twin 1): Twin 1 is being treated with antibiotics and supportive care to combat the infection.
- Prolonged NICU Stay: Due to their extreme prematurity, both twins will require a prolonged stay in the NICU for stabilization, observation, and treatment.
- Investigational Monitoring: Regular diagnostic tests, blood work, and imaging studies will be conducted to monitor both babies' progress.
The estimated cost of treatment for both babies is approximately ₹650,000. This includes all NICU care, investigations (pre and post), doctor consultations, medications, and other related hospital charges from admission to discharge.
The father of the twins is a daily wage sales person, with limited financial resources. The family is unable to bear the significant cost of the prolonged NICU stay and critical care required for both babies.
The family is in urgent need of financial assistance to cover the medical expenses for their premature twins. Your support can help provide the necessary care and improve the chances of survival and recovery for both babies.
